Start Your Own “Face It Group” (F.I.G.)

Yesterday, Dr. Jill and I did a live radio show for HayHouseRadio.com. Listeners were invited to ask questions about our book, Face It:What Women Really Feel As Their Looks Change. It was a wonderful interactive experience. One listener thought it would be great if she could gather a couple of women together to read the book together and support one another while working on the six steps described in our book. It was not the first time we had heard this idea and we are now thinking that perhaps we could be more active in encouraging groups like this to form around the country. If you are interested in creating a group, let us know. We would like to give you some ideas about how to make that happen and how they can work. These groups can serve to help you feel less alone, to answer questions about what women are really feeling as their looks change and perhaps find more satisfying solutions. How can we take care of our looks and feel good about ourselves as we age? Sharing information, giving advice and beauty tips is one way to encourage women that they can look and feel better at any age. Let’s join together with others to make that happen. –Dr. Vivian

    Hello
As a 54 year old woman and a Professional Counselor, I have been pondering all these topics for the past couple of years. I am so grateful to learn about your book. You have expressed many of my thoughts so well in your book and interview. I may want to start a group with friends. Any suggestions as to how to do that.
    Warm Regards,
    Linda

Linda, we are working on putting together a process for creating F.I.G.s, so that people like you can start groups that share ideas and information about how to deal with our changing appearance in more healthy ways. There were many groups formed during the feminist movement that helped raise women’s awareness and I think we’re ready to do that again. Perhaps if you encouraged a group of friends to read ‘Face It’ together, chapter by chapter, it might inspire conversation. We would love to hear how it goes. Write about it on our blog, so that perhaps other women would create groups too. That’s how a movement starts. As we baby boomers hit midlife, we can use groups to impact the next generation. Please let us know if you create a F.I.G and we’ll pass your experiences on as a model for others. Dr. Vivian
